Newborn hearing screening

(0 to 6 months)

An OAE is a test used for newborn that sends otoacoustic emission sounds that are generated by the inner ear. It determines if your child’s cochlea is healthy. The use of otoacoustic emissions is fast and non-invasive.

Approximately 1 to 3 out of 1000 newborn babies are born with a hearing loss in one or both ears.
It’s important to know the presence of a hearing loss as soon as possible to ensure the development of language and speech.
Newborn hearing screening is recommended for ALL newborns and is essential for those born with risk factors (low weight, premature birth, complications during pregnancy, labor and delivery, history of hearing loss in the family, etc.)
